Teaching English through Reading and Storytelling

Storytelling教学法是指通过阅读与讲故事的方式来提高学生的英文表达能力，这种教学法逐渐成为第二语言课堂的主流教学方式。

如果单从字面上理解，这种教学法并没有什么突出的特点，很多人会认为它只是单纯的用英语来复述故事。但是一位真正懂得教学法的外语老师，他/她可以把整个课堂变得非常生动有趣，不但能提高孩子对英文的兴趣，还能培养他们的创造能力及语言表达能力。

下面让我们还原一堂原汁原味的英式英文教学课：

Lesson 1

首先让学生阅读一本书英国儿童著名读物：Jack and the Beanstalk.

故事内容大意：

Jack杰克生活在一个贫困的家庭，他把家里唯一值钱的牛卖给了一位老人，这位老人送了他一个魔法豆。这个魔法豆长出了高高的藤，于是杰克顺着藤爬到最顶处，来到一个城堡，遇到了一个吃人的巨人，他在逃跑过程中，带回一只会生金蛋的鹅，最后杰克一家过上了幸福富裕的生活。

Jack, a poor country boy, trades the family cow for a handful of magic beans, which grow into an enormous beanstalk reaching up into the clouds. Jack climbs the beanstalk and finds himself in the castle of an unfriendly giant. The giant senses Jack's presence and cries, “Fee, fie, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!” Out witting the giant, Jack is able to retrieve many goods once stolen from his family, including an enchanted goose that lays golden eggs. Jack then escapes by chopping down the beanstalk. The giant, who is pursuing him, falls to his death, and Jack and his family prosper.

等孩子看完故事后，不要着急让他/她复述故事的内容。

Activity 1

Draw all the main Characters in the story. 先让学生把故事中的主要人物画出来。

Activity 2

在画完故事中的重要角色后，孩子们对故事情节已经有了进一步的了解，然后对着这些画，开始storytelling -把故事演讲出来，演讲过程以录音或者视频的形式记录下来。

Now you have your cast, you can use them to act out the story. Please take a series of pictures, or a video of you retelling a key part or parts of the story.

Lesson 2

（提升阶段-对故事进行改写）

在第一节课掌握了故事的主要情节后，接下来就要进一步培养学生的语言能力及创造力了。

Activity 1

Your task is to change parts of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and create a story map to retell the story.

这节课，是让学生对故事进行改写，下图可以帮助构思故事情节，以下是学生的map：

Sindy 把故事改编为：Jack and the Magic Egg-杰克和魔法蛋

Activity 2

To sequence and retell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

按照图的箭头顺序复述你改编的故事。

Sindy 同学的做法非常有创意，她把每个人物剪下来，然后用皮影戏的方式来表演她的故事。

故事改编情节大致为：

Jack和他的母亲生活在一个非常非常贫困的家庭，家里唯一值钱的是一头牛，为了生计，杰克妈妈让杰克卖掉牛。

杰克在市场上遇见了一位身无分文的老人，他用一颗鸡蛋换取了杰克的牛。回家后，杰克的母亲非常生气，因为杰克没有换到钱，仅仅是拿回了一颗鸡蛋。她生气的把鸡蛋扔出了窗外，晚饭因为没有东西吃，所以他们就直接睡觉了。

第二天早上起来，杰克惊喜的发现鸡蛋变成了一只大鸟，鸟把他带到了天上的一个王国，在那里遍地黄金。于是杰克装了满满一袋黄金带回家，从此他和母亲过上了富裕的生活。

来自英国老师的点赞：Well done Sindy, you have created a fantastic story! I really enjoyed listening to you telling it and was so impressed with how clearly and confidently you acted as the different characters. You added lots of expression for the different people and did a fantastic job! Well done!

之后，Sindy和Emily继续把故事改编并进行角色扮演。

Lesson 3

经过两节课的口语训练后，最后再要求学生把故事内容写出来。

这就是一节生动有趣的Storytelling课，这种教学法非常适合低年龄段的小朋友，不仅能培养他们阅读的兴趣，还能充分发挥他们的创造力。
